Getting started

Remember:

  1. If you have downloaded the ISO image "astrolinux_06SEP.iso" from one of the three locations shown on "Download" link, be aware that you MUST set  the Write Mode of your CD writer software to DAO (Disk-At-Once), or it will not boot.
  2. Configure your computer BIOS for boot in cdrom first order !

Most computers "boot" normally hitting Return key at DSL screen, without any options. But starting in good Time Zone, needs to enter " dsl  lang=us " here :

  To
flux_boot
  • Otherwise, as shown in DSL boot help pages (F2, F3 keys) it is recommended to type, at first boot prompt : dsl  lang=us  norestore  xsetup and to choose xfbdev xserver for screen display.
  • Read carefully "Getting started with DSL" (Dillo icon).
  • Backup is not yet allowed on NTFS partitions, for data protection.
  • Backup is effective ( right/clic on desktop ... menu system -> backup/restore) on DOS, VFAT, and Linux EXTn partitions, and so, on USB-keys which are originaly on VFAT.
  • dsl  lang=us is the minimum and necessary boot option  if you have a backup on an USB-key or on precedently described disk partitions.
  • Restoring from a USB-key or hard-disk can be done as typing at DSL boot prompt : dsl restore=sda1 or dsl restore=hda1 ... N.
  • DSLpanel icon allows configuration of keyboard, network ...
  • Internet connections are configurable, but automatic with DHCP server network.(check Questions)
